Corporate Counsel
Jay has many years experience practicing in various areas of law relevant to the multi-family housing industry including fair housing and employment, leasing issues, condemnation, real estate tax appeals, real estate related contracts, transactions and litigation. He typically represents apartment owners and managers throughout Indiana providing counsel and advice related to the myriad of issues that arise in the multi-family housing industry. Jay represents clients in court and before county and state administrative boards in real estate tax matters. Jay was a founding member of Real Estate Investments, LLC, a company which, for many years, was involved in the buying and selling of investment real estate.
Jay earned both his undergraduate degree in Business, Economics and Public Policy (BS ’81, cum laude), and law degree from Indiana University – Bloomington (JD ’84). He served as Master Commissioner in the Marion County Courts from1990 – 1995. He has been a frequent speaker on issues affecting multi-family housing and is a certified instructor for the Indiana Apartment Association. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and Indianapolis Bar Association. Indianapolis Bar Foundation Distinguished Fellow.
Managing Broker
Jessica represents both borrowers and lenders in commercial real estate loan transactions, including the negotiation of complex loan documentation and the delivery of legal opinions. Jessica has substantial experience in conventional financings as well as FHA-insured financings and FHA-insured note modifications with all of the requirements and procedures of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Jessica also assists real estate investors and developers in the acquisition, disposition and development of commercial, industrial, and multi-tenant projects.
Associated with her real estate transactional practice, Jessica also advises clients on the selection, formation and operation of business entities.
In addition to real estate transactions, Jessica assists property owners with compliance with zoning and land use laws, representing them before the local zoning boards.
Jessica received her Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction and a double major in Criminal Justice and Spanish from Indiana University – Bloomington in May 1999. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa – National Honor Society. Jessica graduated from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis, magna cum laude, in May 2004, and she served as a Note Development Editor for the Indiana Law Review.
Jessica is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association. She is also a volunteer with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Broker
Kathryn practices in the areas of real estate tax appeals, exemptions, transaction and litigation. Kathryn works closely with commercial property owners and managers to ensure that all aspects of the real property matter are reviewed and comprehensively pursued should an appeal, exemption or other action be warranted. Prior to joining Landman Beatty, Kathryn worked as a Corporate Banker within National City Corporation’s (now PNC Financial) Commercial Real Estate Finance Group.
Kathryn graduated first in her class, summa cum laude, from Ball State University’s Honors College in 2006. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Miller College of Business in Corporate Finance with a minor in Economics. While at Ball State, Kathryn was a Financial Executives Institute Scholar, a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and was an author and presenter at the Eastern Economics Association Conference in New York City, New York.
Kathryn graduated with highest honors from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, receiving her Master of Business Administration degree in 2012. While attending the Kelley School, she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. Kathryn received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2012. During law school, Kathryn served as a Note Development Editor for the Indiana International and Comparative Law Review. Her student note was published in Volume 21 of the Indiana International and Comparative Law Journal.
Kathryn is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association. Kathryn is also a Level II certified Assessor-Appraiser.
Broker
James represents real estate investors in the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties. He also practices landlord tenant law and commercial real estate transactions. Prior to joining Landman Beatty, he represented the State of Indiana as a deputy prosecuting attorney and served clients in private practice. He earned his law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2009. He also holds a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry as well as an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. James is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association.
